Terry has been painting in Plein Air since 2005. She has painted in many countries and is especially fond of the Southwest, (Utah, Nevada, New Mexico, Arizona) and the desert and the coast of California. Terry enjoys giving workshops on Catalina Island, the light is unbelievable. She also enjoys giving demos, workshops and judging for art associations. Sharing the important use of applying paint with a palette knife gives her great pleasure.
Some Plein Air awards and winning paintings. I have been blessed to win Best of Show. Artist Choice, People’s Choice, Honorable mentions along with placements over the years at many Plein Air events.
The objective of a Plein Air artist is to capture the light as it falls on their subject using sight, sound, atmosphere, and temperature to reflect a moment in time while processing this on paper
or canvas. Artists accomplish this in a very short amount of time. This tradition dates back to the 19th century where painters such as John Constable used his plein air sketches to paint huge paintings in his studio. Claude Monet and Edouard Degas who traditionally painted on location using a theory that what you saw in nature was not form but rather light on form and that light could be conveyed through color.
Terry has been painting in Plein Air going on 21 years. She has studied under renowned artist Susan Sarback,
who was a student of Henry Hensche. She is a founding member of the Plein Air Artist of Riverside and past President for 4 terms, continues to paint on location weekly.
